By being raised in the Catholic school system we were taught that Halloween stood for Ale’ Hallows Even. That is the night before All Saints day, on Nov 1. Similiar to the Day of the Dead, the Saints, also being ‘dead’ were people to whom we showed deferrence. Halloween was not to be feared and had nothing to do with “devil worship” which is often purported by the Chrisian right. (Who are often the Christian wrong).
